The Honourable Mr. Justice Carmel A.Agius is the senior judge of the Malta Constitutional Court and the Malta Court of Appeal in all its jurisdictions.
He is also the Permanent Representative of the Maltese Government in the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
Since 1996, he is Pro-Chancellor of the University of Malta and President of its Council.
He has represented Malta at the last three United Nations Crime Congresses as Head of the Maltese Delegation.
He is an external examiner in criminal law and procedure and in forensic science at the University of Malta and coordinates the Criminology programme at the University of Malta.
He has presented numerous papers at many international conferences.
He is the local convenor of the Maltese Section of the International Association of Judges and is a member of the Council of Europe Committee on Legal Data Processing.
Mr. Justice Agius obtained his Doctorate in Law from the University of Malta in 1969. He worked as an advocate until 1977 when he was appointed Magistrate. In 1982, he was appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Malta.
