Damian J. Bugg AM QC is Chancellor of the University of Tasmania.
Mr. Bugg was admitted as a Fellow of the University of Tasmania in 1998, and was appointed to the Council of the University in 2001.
In 2007, he retired from the position of Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, appointed to the position in August 1999.
He had served as Director of Public Prosecutions of Tasmania from 1986 to 1999.
Mr. Bugg was the recipient of the Centenary Medal in 2003, and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in January 2005.
He was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in 1969 and was a partner in the firm, Dobson, Mitchell and Allport from 1977 to 1986.
He is the former President of the Tasmania Bar Association, Council Member
of the Law Society of Tasmania and Chairman of Committee on the Legal Assistance
Scheme. He is Chairman of the Electronic Recording of Police Confessional Material
Committee, Chairman of the Forensic Science Services Committee, a Member of
the Council of the Australian Institute of Judicial Administration and a Member
of the Panel of Advisers for the National Institute of Forensic Science.
