Professor Raimo Lahti is Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Helsinki since 1979 and was Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Judicial Procedure from 1989-1998.

He received his LL.M. (1966), LL.Lic.(1967) and LL.D.(1974) from the University of Helsinki. He also holds a M.Soc.(1971) from the same university.

He was Professor of Criminal Law, University of Turku from 1976 -1979, and was Visiting Scholar, Law School of the University of Wisconsin in 1983. He was a member of the Finnish High Court of Impeachment from 1994-2000.

He was a member of the Task Force on the Finnish Criminal Code Reform from 1980-1999. He was a member of the Scandinavian Research Council for Criminology from 1983-2000. He is a member of  the Board of Directors of the International Association of Penal Law since 1987 and Vice-President since 1994. He was Chairman of the Finnish Section of the International Commission of Jurists from 1985-89.

He has published extensively in the fields of criminal sciences and medical law.
