Assistant Commissioner Peter M. German is Assistant Commissioner for the Lower Mainland of B.C., Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

A member of the RCMP for 27 years, he has worked on uniform and plainclothes duties across Canada. He was assigned to the Commercial Crime Sections at Vancouver and then Ottawa, where he was a Detective Inspector charged with major fraud and corruption investigations.

Between 2002 and 2005, he was the RCMP's Director General of Financial Crime, responsible for the force's commercial crime, market enforcement, and money laundering programs. He is presently the RCMP's District Commander for the Lower Mainland of B.C.

A lawyer, he previously practiced law privately, including as a Crown Prosecutor and as criminal defence counsel. He is a frequent lecturer in Canada and abroad and has served as a Canadian delegate to various international forums.

He is the author of Proceeds of Crime, Carswell, 1998. Assistant Commissioner German is an adjunct professor of criminal justice at the University of the Fraser Valley and a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Financial Crime at the Law School of the University of Florida.

He was recently installed as an Officer of the Order of Merit of Police Forces by the Governor General of Canada.

He was granted his B.A. (Honours), Mount Allison University, 1973; his LL.B., University of New Brunswick, 1981; his M.A., Simon Fraser University, 1990; and his LL.M., University of British Columbia, 1990. He was called to the Bar of British Columbia, 1982, and to the Bar of Ontario, 1989.
