The Honourable Justice A.G. Karibi-Whyte returned to the Supreme Court of Nigeria in late 1998 following his service as a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia since its inception in 1994. Judge Karibi-Whyte was appointed to the Nigerian Federal Court of Appeal in 1980 and in 1984 became a justice of the Nigerian Supreme Court.
Prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeal in 1984, he served as Chairman of the Chairman of the Committee for Reforms and Unifications of Criminal Laws and Procedure Codes in Nigeria.
From 1976 to 1980 he was a judge of the Nigerian Federal High Court.
Judge Karibi-Whyte was a Lecturer in law at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, 1965 - 1970. He was a Research Officer, Law School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, 1962 - 1965.
He was granted his LLB (Hons), University of Hull, 1960; LLM, University of London, 1962 and PhD, University of Lagos, 1971. He was called to the bar in 1961.

Karibi-Whyte also served as the Chairman of the Nigerian National Constitutional Conference.
