Claire Loftus
Claire Loftus, Head of Directing Division, received a BA from University College Dublin in 1987. She qualified as a Solicitor in Ireland in 1992, and joined the Chief State Solicitor's Office as a prosecutor in 1993. There she prosecuted a range of offences in Dublin with particular interest in fraud and extradition matters. In 1996 / 1997 she acted as Solicitor to the Tribunal of Inquiry into the Irish Blood Bank following the contamination of blood and blood products with Hepatitis C. In 2000 she was selected to the post of Solicitor to the Director of Public Prosecutions and undertook the reorganisation of the DPP's Solicitor services within the Office of the DPP. Ms. Loftus took office as Chief Prosecution Solicitor in December 2001 and was responsible for all solicitor services delivered to the DPP nationwide. In 2009 she was selected for the post of Head of Directing Division within the Office of the DPP . This division makes all prosecutorial decisions on files submitted by investigative agencies. Claire Loftus also holds an MSc degree in Public Sector Management from Trinity College Dublin (2002) and a Higher Diploma in European Law from UCD (1996).
