William A. Schabas

Willliam A. Schabas holds a B.A. (Toronto, 1972 ), MA. (Toronto, 1973), LL.B. (Montreal, 1983), LL.M. (Montreal,1990) and LLD. (Montreal,1992).  He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1984. 

He is Professor of Law and Director, Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland.  He was a professor specializing in international criminal and human rights law at the University of Quebec at Montreal for many years. 

Professor Schabas is the Editor-in-chief of Criminal Law Forum. 

He is the author of "International Human Rights Law and the Canadian Charter", (Toronto:Carswell, 1997, 2nd ed.), "The Abolition of the Death Penalty in International Law", (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1997, 2nd ed.) and "The Death Penalty as Cruel Treatment and Torture" (Boston: Northeastern University Press, 1996).
